Study abroad in San Sebastián
Study Spanish in San Sebastián, the medieval bayside city in northern Spain.
A former important port town, San Sebastián (or Donostia in Basque) retains its historical charm whilst also being an important commercial centre and offering fantastic water sports. During you free time, head to Playa de la Concha or Playa de Gros for a spot of surfing or to relax in the sunshine, admire the city’s Belle Époque architecture or enjoy a view of the mountains and coastline from the top of the funicular railway at Monte Igueldo.
San Sebastián is known as the city for food lovers, with many award-winning chefs living and working here. It is the birthplace of Basque cuisine so the famous Basque tapas known as pintxos can be found everywhere. This is a place to come and indulge in delicious seafood, slow-cooked meat, txakoli sparking wine and Basque cider.
San Sebastián is part of the Basque country, meaning that everyone will speak Spanish, but many locals will also speak Basque, a unique language which has no relation to other languages in Europe. Basque is spoken by 27% of the population of the region.
