Study abroad in Rouen

Study French in Rouen, an ancient city on the banks of the River Seine and the capital of Haute-Normandie.

Rouen was one of the most important towns in Europe during the medieval period, being an important capital of the Anglo-Norman dynasty that ruled England and most of modern France. As a result, the city contains various museums and buildings of historic interest, particularly its Notre Dame Cathedral, Gros Horloge and Castle. It was here that the French heroine Joan of Arc was tried and burnt at the stake in 1431. A field of wildflowers marks the spot where she became a martyr in the centre of the old town.

Modern day Rouen is a compact but lively city with a large student population. Aside from the historical sites, in your free time you can enjoy exploring the local markets and antique shops. Just outside the city you will find many forests and trails, and during the summer there is a beach by the Seine. Paris is also only 90 minutes away, so can be easily visited in a weekend excursion.
