Study abroad in Dublin

Study English in Dublin, the capital of the Republic of Ireland.

Dublin has a fascinating history, with medieval castles and attractive Georgian architecture. The city was originally a Viking settlement and, although the Vikings ruled the city for three centuries, not much of this period remains. However, you can learn more about this early stage in the city's history in the Dublinia museum and the National Museum of Ireland. History-lovers also shouldn't miss a trip to Trinity College to see the Book of Kells, an ornate copy of the four gospels that dates back to 800 AD. The twelfth-century St Patrick's Cathedral is equally impressive, being the largest and tallest cathedral in Ireland.

Modern Dublin has a friendly atmosphere and a great nightlife, famed for its many pubs with live music. A trip to Dublin wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the Temple Bar area, known as the cultural heart of the city, where there are numerous restaurants, theatres, bars and pubs. This is the perfect place to sample a pint of Guinness and to hear some traditional Irish folk music. If you'd like to find out even more about this classic Irish drink, you can visit the Guinness Storehouse at St James's Gate.

Dublin may be a small city with the welcoming atmosphere of a village, but it has a cosmopolitan side to its character too. There are numerous restaurants, museums and galleries to be discovered and many large businesses have chosen to make Dublin the home of their European headquarters because of the Republic of Ireland’s low corporation tax and well-educated workforce. As a result, the city is becoming increasingly modern and multicultural.
