Study abroad in Oxford

Study English in Oxford, the 'city of dreaming spires'.

Oxford is famed for its academic, artistic and scientific achievements. It is the home of the oldest university in the English-speaking world, the University of Oxford, which is currently ranked as one of the top five universities in the world. As a result, the city has been the home to many famous figures from around the world including Nobel Prize-winging scientists and current Prime Ministers from various countries, as well as numerous journalists, authors and poets.

The University’s various colleges and departments are spread across the city, some of which are nearly one thousand years old. Oxford is known as ‘the city of dreaming spires’ because of the many incredible ancient buildings that are dotted about its skyline. Visit Christ Church College to see the buildings used as the backdrop for the Harry Potter films or admire Hertford College’s elegant Bridge of Sighs before heading across the road to the Bodleian Library, one of the oldest libraries in Europe. As you would expect in a University town, there are of course wonderful museums and galleries to be explored, most of which are free.

Of course, being the home to so many students and young people, Oxford isn't all about studying. There are numerous historical pubs, trendy bars and delicious restaurants to explore. For a spot of relaxation outside of your English lessons, why not go for a walk or a traditional English picnic in one of the many parks or hire a punt with some friends to explore the city from the River Cherwell, which runs through the city. Despite its traditional beginnings, Oxford has also developed a cosmopolitan character, now being one of the most ethnically diverse small cities in Britain. To get a feel for this other side to the city’s personality, head to the Cowley Road where you will find trendy cafes, bars and shops with produce from all around the world.
