Currency: Canadian Dollar (CAD)
For longer journeys it can be worthwhile to open a bank account locally, in order to be able to receive also small amounts free of charge.

Tip
During your language study stay in the USA, be aware that tips of around 10% are usually given in a restaurant. However, with excellent service it can sometimes be 15 - 20%. Caution should be taken with the prices, since the taxes usually appear only on the final invoice. Taxi drivers are usually given 2 - 3 USD. If you are staying in a hotel, you can thank the maid or suitcase carrier for about 1 USD per piece of luggage or night.

Voltage
The voltage of 120 volts does not correspond to that of Western Europe. Many devices such as mobile phones and notebooks work with 100 - 240 volts and can either be switched or do this automatically. If this is not the case, you need a voltage converter. It's best to have a look at the user manual. An adapter is needed in any case, as the sockets are different from ours. (see picture)
