Fundación Amauta Cuenca
Fundación Amauta is a non-profit educational organization located in the centre of the historical city of Cuenca. Founded in 2000, the school is dedicated to high quality education and to promoting social and environmental research in South America. The school aims to provide its students with an all-encompassing cultural experience, giving them a personal insight into daily life in Ecuador while improving their Spanish language skills. Fundación Amauta is also committed to supporting local projects and donates a portion of its income to local welfare initiatives, as well as providing scholarships and financial aid to local children from low-income families.
In addition to its standard group and private Spanish classes, Fundación Amauta gives you the opportunity to combine your lessons with classes on Ecuadorian culture or to focus on Spanish for medicine or business. For those interested in the school’s welfare projects, we recommend undertaking a volunteer placement during your stay – volunteering can be arranged for projects related to education, health or conservation. Fundación Amauta also offers a special four-week course that combines Spanish lessons with travel and activities. The ‘Travelling Classroom’ program enables you to spread your classes over four different destinations (Quito, Cuenca, Montañita and Manta) ensuring you see as much of the country as possible during your stay. You can find out more about the Travelling Classroom program here.
Fundación Amauta is housed in a colonial style house that is just a short walk away from many of Cuenca's most important landmarks and museums. To help you to get to know this beautiful city and the local culture, the school organizes a weekly activity program that includes tours of the city, salsa lessons, museum visits and cooking workshops. The school’s staff can also help you to arrange weekend excursions, such as to El Cajas National Park or the Ingapirca Ruins.
At Fundación Amauta, it is possible to arrange courses for children as young as three years old. If you would like to discuss course options for your children, please contact us.
