Many visitors come to London to delve into the city's fascinating past and some of its historical buildings are its most iconic, such as the Tower of London, St Paul's Cathedral, Kensington Palace and Westminster Abbey. However, London is also a fiercely modern city, having being the home to so many innovators and independent thinkers. The city has an important contemporary arts scene and is constantly reinventing new parts of the city, with former poorer areas like Peckham, Hackney and Dalston now known for their young, creative atmosphere and range of quirky bars and shops.
